About Me!

Path to Math

Before going to Tufts, I completed two separate Bachelor degrees at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU). I first graduated in May 2020 (in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic) with a B.A. in Theatre and a minor in Mathematics. During the summer thereafter, I decided to revisit math and quickly discovered how beautiful it was and how much I was missing. After meeting with the chair of the department at SCSU and uncovering I could finish the degree in a year, I reenrolled and immediately started perusing graduate school options. Flash forward to May 2021 – I’m graduating a second time with my B.A. in Mathematics!

Future Goals

Simply put, I plan on pursuing a PhD in Pure Mathematics, becoming a professor, continuing research, and writing a handful of textbooks!

My main goal is to write my books in a way that makes the student reading it feel comfortable and supported. I’ve found that math textbooks, by the nature of their material, are often incredibly difficult to read and, as a result, can be very overwhelming. When I’m assigned one of these texts in a course, I often find myself searching for supplemental material or anything that words what I’m reading in a slightly different way.

Ideally most of my books will function as a supplemental material more often than a textbook. The plan is to include more visuals, more worked-through exercises with complete explanations and, most importantly, more excitement regarding the material at hand. If my books help even one future student, I know I’ll have done my job as an educator.

Current Work

Over the past year at Tufts, I have dedicated my time to discovering and narrowing down my interests alongside deepening my understanding of fundamental topics in math. As my B.A. in Math was short, it was of great importance to me that I filled any gaps in my undergraduate background while pushing myself to keep up with my peers at the graduate level. At the end of my first semester, I studied for and passed the Algebra Qualifying Exam and at the end of this year, I plan to take the Analysis Qualifying Exam with my peers.

For the 2022-2023 academic year, I completed a Master's thesis under the advisement of Dr. Robert Lemke Oliver where I looked at how many distinct fields of a given discriminant one can produce with Galois group GL(2,Fp). In preparation for this researching this topic, I studied elliptic curves, Galois representations, and modular curves while strengthening my intuition surrounding the core concepts of algebraic number theory.

In Fall 2023, I will be joining the Ph.D. program at Tufts!
